Be set on your Feet to be A Prophet!

As we enter into now the second holiday in this new normal and celebrate the 4th of July I would like to encourage us to this National Holiday in light of the Word of God today to be an opportunity to be a prophetic people to a nation in crisis.

So often we all experience the pains and frustrations of what is happening in our nation, society and our streets. To often we hear about liberty and freedom, but so often it is denied to so many. It is not my intention talk about how great this nation is, nor do I wish to prosecute our nation, rather it is a call for the Soul of our nation that we seek to build try values of Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness for all who live and reside in our great nation.

In confronting the crisis in our community today we might find ourselves left to discouragement, anger and even rage. My heart sinks as I have seen so many young lives lost in our neighborhood. My soul aches as see so many dying at the hands of those who are to protect us. My heart wrenches as I see the hate and division that was so explicitly demonstrated by the terrorist attack that took place on our capital January 6th. As we honor our nation and the flag and I see those images I find myself in a desolate place.

There is an even greater opportunity and outcome instore. Even through the rough roads and storms that we are called to travel. The opportunity comes from the majority of us in our nation who honestly seek the good, wellbeing and greatness of all. It is clear overwhelmingly what we see and hear is not the core of our American family. That being the case the call to be the Prophet among them is great. The prophetic voice is heard most powerfully through the prophetic acts and decisions that we make as a people. Listen to the words of the prophet Ezekiel ” As the LORD spoke to me, the spirit entered into me and set me on my feet,”

We are called to be a prophetic nation that stands for inclusion and acceptance not exclusion and rejection. We are called to do more than Co-Exist, we are called to celebrate our diversity while lifting up our unity as a nation. A people of many cultures, languages and ways of life. There is only One American and that is the beautiful tapestry that it is. On multi-cultural, multi-lingual and diverse. We are many faces with one heart that seeks to receive and welcome who desire to be a part of her great journey. Let’s be prophets and speak truth to power.

To be prophet has the Spirit to lead and guide them, St Paul reminds us ““My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.”
