The Power of a Father’s Love!

tRINITY   This Trinity Sunday as we celebrate our Christian Faith and recognizing that God is One, yet three distinct persons,  Father, Son and Holy Spirit, we celebrate and worship our God who is One and Triune we also honor our fathers.  It is fitting for us in worshiping God as Father, we see in the Trinity an example and model for all our fathers.   Fathers called to be men of faith, love and unity.

Our Faith tells us that God is One not three.   As we look to the Holy Trinity we see the divine relationship of the Father who sends to the world His Son out of His great love for us, and the Son who promises to His disciples a helper an Advocate, The Holy Spirit, who is the love of the Father and Son going forth for all of creation.   These three Divine Persons form a Unity of God as One.    In The Holy Trinity we see a relationship of Love that has existed since before time began.   This Love of the Father, Son and Spirit, One God yet Three distinct persons is the source of life and all that is.   This is the great Mystery that we accept, believe and proclaim.   The Holy Trinity whom we worship gives us hope for us to proclaim a message of love to the world.

How does this great Power of Love speak to us today as we celebrate Father’s?  I would encourage fathers to see in God the Father an example and model of a loving Father who cares for and has great love for all his children and all his creation. Psalm 103:13
“As a father shows compassion to his children, so the Lord shows compassion to those who fear him.”

A father who has a genuine love for his children, and seeks to show campassion, affection as a protector and provider he can find in God as Father a guide and strength to be a father for his children and husband and partner to his spouse.  Together united in Christ the Father offers strength to the family.    The role of the father is crucial.  So often father’s are not present in the lives of our children, mothers trying to be both mother and father.   It requires fathers to step up and truly be who God calls them to be.   More than a baby daddy, rather a true father filled with a deep desire for the wellbeing of his daughter or son.    This requires great responsibilities in the choices made by fathers to approach relationship with respect and honor.

Psalm 127:3-5 “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them! He shall not be put to shame when he speaks with his enemies in the gate.”

Let us pray for our fathers today and in appreciation to God’s love for them as they give witness to the world of the love of God the Father to the world.   As we pause to give Dad a bit of a break, we are called to make every day father’s day.  The love and deep respect we show them.   Recall the scripture, Ephesians 6:1-3 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”

Look at the great blessing that comes from honoring our fathers, let’s love our men of faith, that God might give them what is needed to be strong fathers who love with compassion, and live with integrity.
